Description
When she is traveling and away from her painting studio, Parr uses a camera as her way of ‘painting’ whilst on the move. Often mistaken as reproductions of her paintings, the Artist’s photographs are Original Limited Edition pieces. Whilst visiting France in 2010 and traveling in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in 2011 Parr started photographing series of transient forms and marks on walls and surfaces. These photographs form unique atmospheric worlds, each with their own pictorial resonance or echo. Many are redolent of things half remembered, some resemble fragments of old charts and maps, others feature overt elements of graphic representation and become chimerical worlds and fictional places. Beach was taken in Wat Si Saket, Laos. Both her paintings and photography uncover our complex potential connections and disconnections with form and landscape, the fine line between pure abstraction and figurative recognition, between chance and control, each piece suggesting a unique atmospheric world with it’s own pictorial resonance or echoes which in turn provoke our capacity to imagine a space beyond our known territories.
