Description
This original artwork by Yasuhiro Onishi is one from a series of small and intricate landscapes depicting lands from literature and folklore, whose existence and location is either doubted or unclear. This work takes its name from an area in Fennoscandia. Kvenland is only known from an Old English account written in the 9th century, and from Icelandic sources written in the 12th and 13th centuries. The contrast of a dark and foreboding background with the suggestion of moonlight through white highlights creates something that is haunting and other-wordly.
