Description

Dai Robert’s UNIT series take the ideas of the early Modernists as a starting point, which he reworks within a contemporary context. By using simple colours, geometric design and architectural form, Dai creates fascinating gravity-defying shapes that play and seduce the viewer with their sleek formal qualities. He draws elegant perspectives and volumes through subtle tones, as previously seen in the works of iconic artists, such as Mondrian and Malevich.

The Modernist beliefs focused on a desire to use technological progress to achieve the perfect fusion of art and life. Dai points out that the technological progress at the heart of our contemporary society mirrors the social context of the 1920s and 30s, thus making them relevant again. By referencing Modernism, Dai also questions its utopian hopes and expectation in a subtle, playful and non-judgmental way.

UNIT Print #14 is a 3 colour screen print printed on 300gsm champagne coloured paper. The edition of 35 hand numbered and embossed prints has been approved by the artist and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
