This haunting figure is from a series of portraits by painter Yasuhiro Onishi. The composition of this particular work, entitled ‘Mr Mustard’ draws strongly from traditional regal portraiture and yet the facial features of the subject are almost grotesque. It is this comical and arresting spin on a traditional medium that makes this small-scale works so engaging.
